Arthritis April
The most common type of arthritis by far is osteoarthritis (OA). It is often known as the “wear and tear” type of arthritis. OA is what can prevent activity and cause significant disability in the last HALF of life span. Taking pain medication may help with symptoms for a few hours but has been shown to speed the progress of OA.
In this clinic we take preventing OA seriously. That's why we X-ray areas of your spine that show problems on the your scan or if there is a reduced range of motion in a joint of the spine.
Restoring motion to those joints and adding some supplements can help prevent arthritis from progressing. As with any healthy habit: consistency is the key. Thats one of the reasons we recommend regular visits (every 3-4 weeks), recommend modified diet and supplements in some cases.
Please remember, it starts painlessly! Just like heart disease, cancer, high cholesterol or high blood pressure this disease can progress painlessly until it is advanced enough to start causing irreversible problems that will severely affect your quality of life. Prevention is the only medicine here! Yes, you can replace a hip or knee but it’s never quite the same as those original parts and there are no replacement vertebrae! You have to live with those.
