How Inflamed are You? ~ Weekly Q&A
This weeks Q & A with Dr. Darrell, we look at the Chronic Inflammation and how we can test for it.
Which blood test can be utilized to assess your degree of chronic inflammation?
A) liver enzymes (ALT, AST)
B) blood sugar
C) cholesterol
D) CRP (C-reactive protein)
When a patient enters an Emergency with symptoms of a heart attack (Myocardial infarction or MI) the blood test they will run is a cardiac troponin and usually CRP. CRP stands for Cardiac Reactive Protein. It is released by the liver if your body has a higher state of chronic inflammation. CRP can be measured any time to asses your degree of chronic inflammation. The higher it is the more likely you are to have a heart attack, stroke, develop cancer and, we are now finding out, dementia.
This would be a good test to ask your GP for and see where you are with that. I find with my patients and practice members that "what gets measured gets attention”! You can make it your goal to get that number down on your next test.
Take action by following the advice on our blogs to get this number down!
