Getting Healthy - Weekly Q&A
This weeks Weekly Q&A with Dr. Darrell we look at getting heathly for the long run!
Forget health goals! There is no finish line, and no magic number to reach. Health is a journey with changing requirements as we age.
In my 30’s I had goals for Marathons and for Ironman races. While it did give me great habits it was not sustainable for me for life. Priorities shift to children and other life factors. An identity as an Ironman athlete may be sustainable for some but it wasn’t for me. There needs to be a shift away from goals to simply having habits that support a healthy life style. It’s like putting your seatbelt on. It’s gotta be an automatic thing for you. Part of it too is identifying as a healthy person. Think of the difference between someone who says, “I’m trying to stop eating sugar” to someone who says, “I don’t eat sugar”. The second person has an identity of a healthy person. The next time you are presented with choices ask yourself, “what would a healthy person choose to do?”
In our western world we have so many choices! A myriad of tasty artificially flavoured and concentrated sugary choices that we have not evolved to consume.
