Growing New Habits -Weekly Q&A

This week's Weekly Q&A with Dr. Darrell we dive into the book, “Atomic Habits” by James Clear and learn the Four Laws to grow new habits.  


1. Make it Obvious. This becomes a question of how much of what we do is actually free will and how much of what we do is conditioned.  Eg. You’re waiting in line and automatically start scrolling social media.  This can turn into every time you have a free moment or you’re bored you start scrolling.  That can creep into your evenings and ruin your sleep.


2. Make it Attractive.  Use the two minute rule.  Instead of vowing to read 2 hours every night just put put a timer limit on screen time and read two minutes before resuming scrolling.  Move up from there.


3. Make it Easy.  If exercise is your goal, put the bike trainer in front of your favourite TV!  New habits have to be readily available!


4. Make it Satisfying. If you like watching you tube videos about travel then that’s great time to have exercise as an excuse to watch them!  Just make sure your on that treadmill or have those weights handy!
