This weeks Q & A with Dr. Darrell, we look at how the spine adapts to stress.

The concept of a joints in the spine adapting to stress was discussed by ______ and he won the Nobel Prize in biology for it?

A) DD Palmer
B) Albert Einstein
C) Hans Selye

Hans Selye won a Nobel Prize for his work in how the body and, in particular,  the spine adapts to stress.  He called it the General Adaptation Syndrome. GAS is the body adapting to stressors whether they be emotional, physical or chemical.  Symptoms, he said, occur when the bodies ability to adapt to stress begins to fail.  In other words, his advice would be to avoid the stress that causes the syndrome to begin!  Of course we cannot avoid all stress in our lives but we can deal with effects of that stress by correcting the subluxations caused by stress!
