Supplements & Chronic Inflammation ~ Weekly Q&A
This weeks Q & A with Dr. Darrell, we look at the role supplements play in Chronic Inflammation.
Of all the things you can do to decrease Chronic Inflammation which is the least important?
A) Optimize your sleep
B) Improve your diet
C) Get regular exercise
D) Take supplements like fish oil and Carcumin
We have discussed in recent blogs how decreasing your level of inflammation slashes your risk of cancer, heart disease and dementia. We’ve talked about strategies such as getting regular exercise, improving diet and optimizing sleep. But what about supplements? Products like carcumin, fish oils and probiotics have been shown to decrease C-reactive protein too. They are however, the least important of the 4 strategies above for achieving a decrease in inflammation. Do I take some of these supplements? Yes I do but it’s important to do top three as your first priority. As I like to say, "don’t major in the minor and minor in the major" when it comes to health.
So once again there’s no pill that replaces the healthy habits above even though supplements can help to some degree.
Yours in Health, Dr D
